Primary Function

This Quality Engineer II – Hardware position supports Quality Assurance activities to ensure hardware products conform to AS9100D, contractual requirements, and approved engineering documentation. The role is hands-on and execution-focused, emphasizing inspection, verification, traceability, and nonconformance control across the hardware lifecycle.

The Quality Engineer II will support work performed in light production and integration environments focused on low-volume, customer-specific, and one-off hardware builds rather than repeatable large-scale manufacturing. The role requires close coordination with engineering, production, and supply chain teams to ensure unique builds meet contractual and quality requirements.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform receiving, in-process, final, and acceptance inspections of hardware products
  • Verify hardware conformity to drawings, specifications, and work instructions
  • Ensure part identification, serialization, and traceability requirements are met and maintained
  • Perform/Support Functional Configuration Audits (FCA) and Physical Configuration Audits (PCA)
  • Review and complete inspection records and quality documentation for accuracy and compliance
  • Identify and document nonconforming material in accordance with AS9100 procedures
  • Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) activities and support disposition execution
  • Verify implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions
  • Review supplier documentation including Certificates of Conformance (CoCs) and First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) per AS9102
  • Verify as-built hardware matches approved configuration baselines
  • Ensure quality records are controlled, retained, and audit-ready
  • Support internal and external audits related to hardware quality compliance

 

Work Conditions

  • Full-time, primarily on-site position
  • Work performed in production, integration, and inspection environments supporting low-volume and one-off hardware builds
  • Occasional travel (≤10%) may be required to support supplier or inspection activities

 

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • 3–5 years of experience in hardware quality assurance, inspection, or a related role in a regulated industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Working knowledge of AS9100D requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experience with receiving, in-process, and final inspections
  • Experience participating in MRB activities
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace or defense industry experience
  • Experience reviewing AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports
  • AS9100 or ISO 9001 internal auditor training
  • Familiarity with FCA and PCA execution
