Engineering Internship

Primary Function:

Long Wave’s Internship Program provides hands-on experience supporting aerospace and defense programs across Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, and Software Engineering disciplines. Interns will work with experienced engineers to contribute to real projects, gaining exposure to the engineering lifecycle including design, analysis, testing, and integration.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

Systems Engineering, Integration & Test:

  • Support requirements development, traceability, and system-level analysis.
  • Assist with test planning, verification, and validation tasks.
  • Support test execution in a lab environment, document discrepancies, and data collection.
  • Participate in cross-disciplinary integration and review activities.
  • Assist with technical documentation review, edits, and creation.

Software Engineering:

  • Contribute to embedded software or application-level development.
  • Assist with software design, implementation, and debugging.
  • Support software integration, testing, and documentation.
  • Translate system requirements into software architecture and code.

Mechanical Engineering:

  • Support mechanical design, modeling, and drafting in CAD.
  • Assist with prototype fabrication, assembly, and functional testing.
  • Participate in design reviews and engineering documentation updates.

Electrical Engineering:

  • Assist with circuit design, wiring design and analysis, and hardware testing.
  • Support lab activities including data collection and electrical integration.
  • Contribute to test procedures, documentation, and engineering changes.

 

Work Conditions:

Onsite work required at Long Wave’s Oklahoma City office.

 

Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, systems, aerospace, software, or computer engineering – or related field.
  • Completion of at least sophomore year prior to internship start.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a technical environment.
  • S. citizenship required due to federal contract requirements.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Prior internship, engineering project, lab, or research experience.
  • Familiar with CAD, MATLAB, Python, C/C++, embedded systems, or engineering modeling software.
  • Interest in aerospace/defense technology and multidisciplinary engineering.
